BALLISTOL has been produced and sold worldwide for more than four generations and is still manufactured in Germany using the original recipe of 1904. Originally developed for the imperial army as a weapon and maintenance oil.
In 1874, Friedrich Wilhelm Klever founded the ‘Chemical Factory F.W. KLEVER’ in Cologne. He began with the production of oils and fats based on coal and purchased a mine in order to be independent of raw material deliveries. Around the turn of the 20th century, the imperial army needed an universal oil that would maintain and preserve metal parts, wooden stocks and leather. Simultaneously, it had to serve as a wound oil for injuries, lacerations and bruises. In 1904, Dr Helmut Klever, the son of the company founder, successfully formulated this special oil. It soon became obvious that this new “ballistic oil” had truly amazing capabilities, and in 1905 the Imperial Army tested and adopted Ballistol, which stayed in use until 1945. It became known as a “miracle oil” with surprising properties and a synonym for quality.

The addition of the special ceramic additive guarantees a good performance and accurate shooting even in extreme conditions, as well as preventing wear on the gun.
GunCer settles under stress in the irregularities of the friction points and thus smoothes out the roughness peaks. The friction is reduced and dirt doesn’t stick as easily. It offers outstanding corrosion protection, prevents corrosion, is waterproof and can be used in a temperature range from -40°C to +210°C.
With the addition of a special ceramic additive and a temperature range from -50°C to +150°C, GunCer gun grease offers the highest wearing and corrosion protection for treated components. For lubricating all tribological pairings, such as breech guiderails, rollers, detents, locking lugs, hinge bolts and as a screwed and pinned connection fitting device. It is neutral towards plastic, paint, wood and browning. Emergency running properties are ensured by the ceramic additive.
